Bolognese dogs are a small white companion dog that does not shed. They are in the Bichon family and are only white in color. They are sometimes referred to as Bichon Bolognese. As puppies they sometimes have some champagne coloring, but it will fade to white.
The Bolognese dog dates back to the Rennaissance era.
The Bolognese has a shoulder height of 10-12 inches and weighs 5-9 lbs. For a small dog they are usually well-muscled and fairly athletic.
The Bolognese coat is very distinctive. It has a mass of long loosely curled locks that cover it's entire body. The texture is not silky but is soft and thick. There tend to be strands of courser hair mixed with the soft. This is what tends to cause the matting. Constant grooming is a must if you want to keep you Bolognese in a long coat. For pets, a puppy cut tends to work well and requires much less grooming.
The Bolognese is a very intelligent dog. They are reserved around strangers but tend to be a bit clownish in their efforts to please their families! Their biggest desire in life is to be part of a family. They thrive when they are right in the middle of all the family activity.
Bolognese get along well with other dogs and are fascinated by cats. As with all puppies, socialization at a young age is important.

Our new boy "Charmin's Dario of Aspen Villa". His paternal grandfather is from some good Russian bloodlines. Mother is from Czech kennel. Our partner is Kiana Somers of CA.
Bolognese generally have a life span of at least 12-14 years. Some of Dorothy's older dogs lived to be 16-18 years old and were fairly spry for their age.
